City of Maribyrnong - Business Bulletin - 23 September 2021 |
To our Maribyrnong Business Community, Council appreciates the difficulties local business owners have been through over the past 18 months and we are keen to hear understand what support businesses need the most at the moment. The Business Needs Survey will help Council make informed decisions to assist the business community moving forward. We encourage you to complete the survey and have your say. Every year, Council provides the business community an opportunity to apply for Business Improvement District (BID) Grants and last year's recipients were recently recognised for the delivery of their projects at the BID Grant Showcase. The NEW and improved Business Improvement District (BID) Grants Program is now here, and we are looking for Businesses to be involved. More information can be found below. You would have noticed that the City has been transformed Red, White and Blue in honor of the Western Bulldogs set to play in the Grand Final this weekend. Businesses have shown community spirit by decorating shop fronts and offering fantastic deals for the local community to enjoy on Grand Final day. Take a look at our Love Your Local site for special offers and to see images of all the decorative displays around our City. Mother Nature was at its finest yesterday giving this good old city a shake up. What a crazy year 2021 has turned out to be! There hasn't been any reports of damage in our municipality so far, and we hope your business was not affected by the earthquake. There's lots more to read in our bulletin this week and if you have any questions, comments or queries, please email business@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au Best wishes and stay safe City of Maribyrnong Team |
City of Maribyrnong - Business Needs Survey

Medicinal Cannabis - A Maribyrnong Enterprise?
Maribyrnong City Council is inviting its community to discuss a proposal to establish a medicinal cannabis business to reduce the burden on ratepayers. The online forum will be held Thursday 30 September at 6pm. Council last week (14 September) resolved to seek community views on setting up a business to cultivate, produce and manufacture medicinal cannabis. The proposal acknowledged the need to seek alternative revenue streams and external funding opportunities to reduce over reliance on rate revenue. Council is currently seeking to understand the level of community support before deciding whether to proceed to a feasibility study and risk assessment. Medicinal cannabis products are only available on prescription and can be used to relieve symptoms of medical conditions such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis; and side effects of some treatments and symptoms associated with Cancer and palliative care. The medicinal cannabis industry is tightly regulated and any venture would require a Federal Government license to operate. The community is warmly invited to join the on-line discussion this coming Thursday 30 September. Feedback can also be provided via Council’s online digital engagement platform www.yourcityyourvoice.com.au/medicinal-cannabis by 11 October 2021. |
