While we await the outcome of the Local Government election it is a good time to reflect on the achievements of Council for the term. Despite the pandemic we continued to deliver important projects and strengthened our place as Sydney’s Connected Community.

Projects highlights saw us: Introduce a $47 million Economic and Social Recovery Plan; complete the Georges River Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2021; achieve targets to source 100 per cent renewable energy for our operations three years early; adopt the Community Strategic Plan 2022 – 2032 (The Plan); complete Riverwood Reconnected project; complete Olds Skate Park and Netball Courts Precinct; complete Memorial Square and MacMahon Courtyard works and reinstate a statue of Australian literary figure and feminist Miles Franklin; adopt the Georges River Transport Strategy 2021; and welcome strong community participation in local decision making in the lead up to Council’s adopted Mortdale Local Centre Master Plan.

We saw record attendance of our events, including over 50,000 people at Lunar New Year festivities; celebrated Hurstville Museum & Gallery’s 20th anniversary, and hosted the first Spark Sydney South Innovation Summit.

Georges River is a Council committed to being future focused and ambitious. In the coming years, we will see pockets of the future emerge through strategic initiatives that support our region to be more accessible, green, diverse and innovative.

As such, after much consideration, St George Business Chamber has completed a rebrand to be Business Chamber South which is supported by both Georges River Council and Bayside Council.

In addition to their rebrand, Business Chamber South is expanding their reach from St George to include Bayside. This means more opportunities for networking, collaboration across diverse industries, and enhanced support tailored to your business growth and the growth of this Chamber in Sydney South.

We understand change can sometimes raise questions, but please know that this transition will not affect your current membership or Business Chamber South’s ongoing commitment to local businesses.
