The Instant Asset Write-off Explained

As part of the Federal Budget, the $20,000 instant asset write-off is set to become a permanent measure for eligible small businesses.

The scheme allows businesses to immediately claim a tax deduction for qualifying assets costing less than $20,000, rather than depreciating them over time.

Eligible assets may include;

  • Computers and laptops
  • Business equipment and tools
  • Machinery
  • Office furniture

Ban on surcharges for debit, credit and prepaid card payments

Card surcharges for Visa, Mastercard and EFTPOS payments will soon be banned. Here’s what you need to know and how to prepare your business before the changes come into effect. 

Paying by card is a popular and convenient way for Australians to buy goods and services from a range of businesses, online and in person. At the moment, businesses can charge a surcharge or merchant fee for payments made by card, as long as the surcharge is:

Armadale's Growth Presents Opportunities for Small Business

The City of Armadale continues to experience strong growth, creating new opportunities for local small businesses.

With an estimated population of 113,003 in 2025, projected to reach 155,707 by 2046, Armadale is one of the fastest-growing regions in Western Australia. On average, nine new residents move to the City each day, expanding the local customer base and increasing demand for goods and services.

This growth is supported by a thriving local economy. Armadale's Gross Regional Product (GRP) reached $4.75 billion in June 2025, an increase of 6.9% on the previous year. Key industries including health care, education, construction, wholesale and retail continue to drive economic activity across the region.

The City's construction sector is also thriving, with $948 million in building approvals recorded during the 2024/25 financial year. This investment is creating new opportunities for businesses to support residential, commercial and community development projects.

Combined with strong transport connections to Perth and surrounding regions, Armadale offers an attractive environment for businesses looking to establish, grow and succeed.

As the community continues to expand, so too do the opportunities for local businesses to be part of Armadale's future.
